Joey's Top 5: What I Wish I Knew In First Year...

This is an archived post from March 3, 2017 written by Joey during his 4th year in the Urban and Regional Environments stream of the Bachelor in Environmental Studies.  As an upper year student, Joey used the blog to share some of his tips and tricks for succeeding in the program.

What I wish I knew in first year...

Joey's Top 5:

  1. Use the FES staff resources available to you.  Joseph is for scholarships and careers and  Ann is for academic advising.
  2. Attend your professor/teaching assistant's office hours. This will allow you to develop a better understandin
g of the course objectives and clarify anything you are unsure of.
  3. Contribute to in-class discussions and engage with classmates during collaborative times. The classroom is a friendly and welcoming environment, where students are free to speak their mind and contribute their opinions.
  4. Study beyond the classroom. Begin to think academically outside of the classroom and bring your knowledge to class and to your assignments.
  5. Learn about technology services available on campus (scanners, printers, web print, library and research help).
