Hey!

My name is Christina and I am a 4th year BES student in the Environmental Management stream. I am doing a History minor, the GIS and Remote Sensing certificate, and am doing a Directed Study this year (blog post on these coming soon!). I am an Environmental Studies work-study student and am also one of the Faculty's Peer Mentors.

So a little bit about me:
My dream was always to be a marine biologist, but I’ve had trouble with math and sciences my whole life, so I couldn’t get into the program I wanted. So, when I was looking for alternatives for a degree, I found my passion for shark conservation could be channeled into a management or educational career, rather than a science based one. I am also a certified rescue scuba diver, and have experience volunteering in Halifax with the Bedford Institute of Oceanography’s Shark Research Lab, volunteering at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, and doing benthic/coral reef surveying in the Bahamas for the Bahamas National Trust. I am pretty good at finding volunteer experience, so if you need any help with that don’t hesitate to stop by my Peer Mentor office hours or have a look on the BES blog (Blog post on this coming soon!).

One of the main reasons I chose the BES program at York was the opportunity to study at the Eco-campus in Costa Rica, which I was able to visit this past summer while completing two courses there.

Some of my hobbies include Netflix, travelling, scuba diving, anything to do with sharks, hanging out with friends, going to the movies, etc. I am also a part of the Las Nubes Student Association on campus. Be sure to check out Marissa’s blog post for information on how to get involved on campus!
