Meet Celeena

This is a photo of our student blogger Celeena. This blog is an archived post written by Celeena during her 3rd year in the Environmental Management stream.

I’m Celeena, an international student from Trinidad! If you don't know where that is, it’s in the Caribbean; the very last island in the chain. Fun fact: I also went to an all girls’ high school!

This is a photo of Celeena while in Trinidad.

I’m currently in my third year of the Environmental Management area of concentration of the BES program and I’m also taking the certificate in Sustainable Energy. Climate change, renewable energy and sustainability has always been an interest of mine and I’ve always been fascinated by the weather and hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes...generally just all natural disasters!

This is a photo of lighting and rain.

I chose Environmental Management and the Sustainable Energy certificate because it allows me to explore different aspects of sustainability, climate change, and energy related to policy, research, law, conservation. I hope to one day work with renewable energy-based companies, governmental organizations, NGOs or businesses to find sustainable solutions to our environmental issues.

I’ve been involved in residence life at York in the past, volunteered as an Orientation leader, and am a Peer Mentor for the BES this year as well as being involved with the Recruitment and Communications team. I am also very interested in the semester abroad opportunity to do a course in Costa Rica at York’s Eco Campus, which I think is a fantastic opportunity and plan to participate in Summer 2019!

Apart from school life, I’ve always been fascinated by cities! Moving to Toronto was a dream and I love exploring the city in my spare time and finding new places to hang out, eat (I LOVE food) and attending fun events. Another thing I absolutely love doing is going to concerts! I went to my first music festival this summer (Summer 2018), Osheaga in Montreal and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Live shows are a great de-stress for me and I try to go as often as my schedule allows me to.

This is another photo from the Osheaga music festival showing the crowd and a band onstage.

Apart from this, I’m a hardcore Netflix-enthusiast and I absolutely ADORE puppies/dogs.

I am super excited for the year ahead!
